I’ve spent nearly two decades sharing my experience and technical skills with the students of Pennsylvania State University’s Bellisario College of Communications, as staff and as an adjunct instructor. In that time I’ve seen the communications programs evolve from students learning with 16mm film, mini-dv standard definition and the advent of 24p digital frames, HD, 2k, 4k, and now 6k resolutions. The student’s eager pursuit of the latest in technology and methodology, pushes our curriculum ever-forward in pursuit of bringing them that ‘ah-ha’ moment, when they’ve built confidence in themselves as budding artists, and recognize their competence in operating technology to achieve their vision. They’re no longer just flipping the camera to Auto pushing the big red button.
